The State Government must listen to the community and shelve plans to extend the Sydney Metro from Sydney to Bankstown, according to Bankstown state Labor MP Tania Mihailuk.
She told parliament it was clear the vast majority of people in Bankstown “utterly oppose the Metro”.
“There were 267 submissions from west of Bankstown, 43 from between Carramar and Yagoona, 89 from Berala and 49 from Regents Park,” she said.
“There were 32 submissions in support of the Sydney Metro and 340 objected to the Metro.
“That should tell the government that the vast majority of those who made a submission clearly oppose the Metro.”
Restore the Inner West Line community group spokesman Roydon Ng said opposition to the Metro was strongest in Berala, Regents Park and Chester Hill.
“These stations are (among) the nine stations west of Bankstown that will lose all direct trains to the city once the Metro is constructed, forcing 19,000 commuters to make additional interchanges at Lidcombe and Bankstown,” he said.
