Rail for West of Bankstown

Our position for rail west of Bankstown is as follows:

  • Keep Our Stations Open
  • Restore Inner West Line (City to Liverpool via Regents Park)
  • Restore City to Bankstown via Regents Park (especially for Birrong and Yagoona)
  • No cuts to existing T3 Bankstown Line services (e.g. keep direct train from Liverpool to Bankstown)
  • Oppose use of Regents Park and Birrong as a forced interchange
City to Liverpool via Regents Park is T2 Inner West Line not T3 Bankstown Line

Transport for NSW’s recent release of its preferred option in rail planning for west of Bankstown includes the restoration of the “City to Liverpool via Regents Park” service

However, the “City to Liverpool via Regents Park” service has been labelled as part of the ‘T3 Bankstown Line’ instead of using its historical name of “Inner West Line

The NSW Government is desperate to avoid acknowledging that the removal of such service in October 2013 has never been justified

There is no capacity constraint on the Sydney Trains Network for the “City to Liverpool via Regents Park” service that warranted its removal

Changing the name from “Inner West Line” to ‘Bankstown Line’ is the NSW Government’s attempt to cover up the reality that the train service was unjustly removed in 2013

We have obtained Transport for NSW’s internal Temporary Transport Service Plan (TTSP) for the ‘T3 Bankstown Line’ shutdown in December 2019 and January 2020

This government document clearly states that “City to Liverpool via Regents Park” is part of the “T2 Inner West Line

The NSW Government needs to be honest with the community and use the correct name of “Inner West Line” for the “City to Liverpool via Regents Park” service

Incorrectly applying the label of ‘T3 Bankstown Line’ to the “City to Liverpool via Regents Park” service will only cause confusion for commuters as this route does not go to Bankstown
