New Cumberland Line

New Cumberland Line: Aerotropolis (Bradfield) to Epping via Glenfield and Parramatta.

September 2024 Update

In response to concerns raised about the Sydney Metro announcement for the South West Rail Link extension as metro from Glenfield to Aerotropolis, the NSW Government has announced that the planning for the project will be “mode agnostic” (with consideration to include Sydney Trains heavy rail).

Sydney Metro has since removed its announcement for the South West Rail Link extension as a metro project and the NSW Government has clarified that the Liverpool via Regents Park train will not be truncated to Cabramatta.

Note: Aerotropolis (Bradfield) is NOT Western Sydney Airport International Terminal Station. Aerotropolis (Bradfield) is one station south of Western Sydney Airport. If the T5 Cumberland Line is not extended as Sydney Trains to Western Sydney Airport International Terminal Station, commuters travelling to/from Sydney Airport will have to interchange twice (Aerotropolis and Glenfield).

The current NSW Government proposal is extending Metro from Aerotropolis (Bradfield) to Glenfield as the start of the New Cumberland Line. Without a new parallel tunnel/station boxes for Sydney Trains at Western Sydney International Airport Station and Aerotropolis Station, the New Cumberland Line (once extended beyond Glenfield to Epping) will only be able to be operated as Sydney Metro.
We do not support extending Metro from Aerotropolis (Bradfield) to Glenfield, but instead believe new tunnels/station boxes with capacity for 8 carriage Sydney Trains should be constructed at Western Sydney International Airport Terminal Station and Aerotropolis Station from an extension of the existing Sydney Trains line from Leppington.
