Transport Orientated Development Program (Berala & Lidcombe Rezonings)

The Restore T2 Inner West Line community campaign applauds the NSW Government for its recent commitment to reinstate Liverpool to City via Regents Park train services in the upcoming 2024 timetable.

Commuters in the West of Bankstown area remain concerned that the Bankstown to City via Regents Park train service is not being reinstated despite capacity on the existing network for such service.

Furthermore, uncertainty remains for the long-term future of train services between Lidcombe – Bankstown – Cabramatta with Transport for NSW questioning the need for direct services to Central after 2030.

Transport hubs are important locations and opportunities for housing that reduces car dependency especially in Western Sydney, but the current Transport Orientated Development Program lacks transparency.

Neither the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure or Transport for NSW has provided the rationale of how Berala and Lidcombe’s current infrastructure can sustain increased demand and higher densities.

The selection of Berala and Lidcombe for rezoning has been shrouded in secrecy with NSW Government agencies refusing to meet with local residents to outline the impacts of the Transport Orientated Development Program.

It is concerning that property developers have been consulted for Transport Orientated Development ahead of the Ministry of Health and Ausgrid whom have had no opportunity to assess the impact of increase demand on services.

We support Transport Orientated Development, but the NSW Government must justify how existing infrastructure in Berala and Lidcombe (including health, energy, education, open spaces, transport etc) can adequately support the rezonings.
