Community Welcomes Announcement to Temporarily Restore “Liverpool to City via Regents Park” Train Services

The Restore Inner West Line & Save T3 Bankstown Line community action group extends our thanks to the 19,000 commuters in the West of Bankstown area for supporting the Sydney Trains Network.

Our community is delighted with the NSW Government announcement to temporarily restore the former T2 Inner West Line service of “City Circle to Liverpool via Regents Park” from mid-2024.

The T2 Inner West Line: Liverpool via Regents Park was removed without genuine merit in the 2013 timetable with Transport for NSW unable to provide any data supporting the supposed reliability improvements achieved by having commuters interchange at Lidcombe, Birrong, and Strathfield.

The NSW Government’s decision to temporarily restore “City Circle to Liverpool via Regents Park” train services follows the 11 year community campaign of residents from Berala, Regents Park, Sefton, Chester Hill, Leightonfield, Villawood, Carramar, Birrong, and Yagoona to keep our stations open with direct trains to Central.

It is the achievement of local residents and commuters that has resulted in the temporary restoration of the “City Circle to Liverpool via Regents Park” train service as Transport for NSW until recently had intended to simply replace trains with buses or run a limited shuttle between Lidcombe – Cabramatta and Bankstown, without any direct trains to Central.

The community in the West of Bankstown area should be very proud of themselves for overturning numerous Transport for NSW decisions in the past decade to remove Sydney Trains between Lidcombe – Cabramatta and Bankstown, and commuters should note that adequate capacity also exists for the restoration of the “Bankstown to City Circle via Regents Park” train service for Birrong and Yagoona.

The Restore Inner West Line & Save T3 Bankstown Line community action group will continue to fight for the permanent restoration of our train services from City to Liverpool AND Bankstown via Regents Park, and direct trains between Liverpool and Bankstown.
