Breaking News: Transport for NSW is considering new plans to remove direct trains to Central from West of Bankstown.
The Restore Inner West Line community action group has been provided with information presented to Transport Minister Jo Haylen in September 2023 including the removal of the “City Circle to Liverpool via Regents Park” train service.
Stations such as Berala, Regents Park, Sefton, Chester Hill, Leightonfield, Villawood, Carramar, Birrong, and Yagoona will once again be without direct trains to Central in the near future following the opening of Sydney Metro Southwest to Bankstown in 2025.
The 2024 timetable will only see a temporary restoration of the Inner West Line as the new T3 Liverpool to City Circle via Regents Park service leaving the long-term future of our trains remain in doubt.
The latest Transport for NSW proposal is for the Inner West Line to once again end at Homebush, with passengers between Lidcombe and Liverpool (via Regents Park) on a shuttle train only.
Birrong and Yagoona will be removed from the Sydney Trains Network entirely, and have no direct connection to Regents Park or Lidcombe.
The Restore Inner West Line community action group reiterates our commitment to fighting to ensure that all stations in the West of Bankstown have direct train to Central, and we call on the NSW Government to commit to a permanent restoration of the Inner West Line: City Circle to Liverpool (and Bankstown) via Regents Park.
A new underground Metro earmarked as the Parramatta to Kogarah line will be constructed from: Westmead Hospital to Parramatta (Smith Street/Metro West Interchange) to Granville Station (interchange) to Sefton Station (interchange) to Bankstown (Metro interchange) then continuing to Roselands (new station) towards Kingsgrove (interchange) and Kogarah (interchange).
Other stations being disconnected from Central Station include Merrylands, Guildford, Yennora, Fairfield, Canley Vale, Cabramatta, Warwick Farm, Liverpool.
A new T5 Cumberland Line is being proposed including a new alignment from north of Merrylands in tunnel to Parramatta (by-passing the Y-Link and Harris Park) to Carlingford and Epping.
The Restore Inner West Line community action group calls on Transport for NSW to undertake genuine community consultation as a matter of urgency in the preparation of future rail lines and network planning.
