Update July 2023: Transport for NSW refuses to commit to Sydney Trains for the West of Bankstown

Restore Inner West Line: City to Liverpool via Regents Park & City to Bankstown via Regents Park

The Restore Inner West Line community action group started in opposition to major cuts of Sydney Trains’ services on the Inner West Line in October 2013.

The removal of the City to Liverpool via Regents Park and City to Bankstown via Regents Park service significantly increased travel times for 19,000 commuters west of Bankstown.

The cuts to the Inner West Line also resulted in commuters travelling from between Lidcombe – Liverpool/Cabramatta and Bankstown facing up to 3 interchanges (involving 4 separate trains) to reach the City Circle and Inner West.

The conversion of Sydenham to Bankstown into Sydney Metro Southwest cuts the final direct train to City for many commuters west of Bankstown.

After 7 years of community support, the Restore Inner West Line campaign has succeeded with Transport for NSW announcing plans to resume train services on the City to Liverpool via Regents Park route.

Commuters from Berala, Regents Park, Sefton, Chester Hill, Leightonfield, Villawood, and Carramar will receive direct train services to the City Circle and the Inner West without interchange at Birrong, Lidcombe, Strathfield.
