Canterbury Bankstown Council opposes Transport for NSW plans for permanent shutdown in West of Bankstown

Canterbury Bankstown Council has voted on 29 August 2023 to fight back against Transport for NSW plans to permanently close stations and replace trains with bus in the West of Bankstown area (in the long-term future) after Metro Southwest opens in 2025 (from Sydenham to Bankstown).

A big thank you to Councillor Barbara Coorey for bringing this to the attention of the Council, and thank you to all Councillors for supporting the community in the West of Bankstown area.

Canterbury Bankstown Council has also voted to support Restore Inner West Line (City to Liverpool/Bankstown via Regents Park) in 2020.

This is a clear message to Transport for NSW and Sydney Metro that abuses of power through the Transport Administration Act 1988 will not be tolerated by the residents and commuters.

Transport for NSW has created internal plans for bus to replace Sydney Trains between Lidcombe – Bankstown – Cabramatta, with Regents Park as a new bus interchange for the 3 new bus routes in the West of Bankstown.
