Cumberland Locals Against Metro Southwest

The Restore Inner West Line (Liverpool via Regents Park) community action group thanks the residents of Cumberland LGA for the overwhelming support in the fight against Metro Southwest

Around 650 locals have signed submissions to the Parliamentary Inquiry into Metro Southwest voicing their strong opposition to the project, which is a major downgrade of public transport for west of Bankstown

Submissions call for the restoration of the Inner West Line (City to Liverpool/Bankstown via Regents Park), Save T3 Bankstown Line (no to Metro Southwest) and for express trains at Lidcombe station

Despite Cumberland LGA being officially ignored by the NSW Government in the planning of Metro Southwest, the consequences of converting Sydenham to Bankstown into Metro will be felt by those west of Bankstown

Metro Southwest (Sydenham to Bankstown conversion) forces 19,000 commuters from west of Bankstown to interchange twice every day to reach City Circle (e.g. Wynyard, Circular Quay)

The 9 stations west of Bankstown: Berala, Regents Park, Sefton, Chester Hill, Leightonfield, Villawood, Carramar, Birrong and Yagoona until 2013 also had Inner West Line services from City to Liverpool/Bankstown via Regents Park

The NSW Government owes the community an explanation into why 9 stations west of Bankstown deserve to have no trains to the City whatsoever

We would like to thank The Battler group for their support of the Save T3 Bankstown Line campaign and for assistance in collecting submissions outside local train stations

Train services cut by the NSW Government in Cumberland LGA (and former Auburn LGA) since 2013:

  • Inner West Line: City to Liverpool via Regents Park

  • Bankstown Line (loop): City to Bankstown via Regents Park

  • Central to Olympic Park via Strathfield (regular services)

  • Western Line: express trains for Lidcombe, Auburn, Clyde, Granville (peak services)

The NSW Government isn’t content with the significant downgrading of public transport in Cumberland LGA and surrounding suburbs that further cuts are planned including:

  • Lidcombe to City via Bankstown

  • Liverpool to City via Bankstown

  • Bankstown Line express trains

  • Termination of Bankstown Line at Cabramatta

  • Shutdown of Leightonfield, Villawood, Carramar stations with bus replacing trains

Restore Inner West Line calls on the NSW Government to stop downgrading public transport, Save T3 Bankstown Line (no to Metro Southwest) and to restore all services removed since 2013

We also urge Cumberland Council and Canterbury-Bankstown Council to represent the local community to stop the downgrading of the T3 Bankstown Line (say no to Metro Southwest)

Commuters and residents signing a submission at Lidcombe station
Commuters and residents signing a submission at Chester Hill station
Commuters and residents signing a submission at Regents Park station

Submissions can be signed online at www.SaveT3.org/MetroInquiry until 13 October 2019

We support EcoTransit’s proposal for a new Metro line from Sydenham to Miranda via Airport instead of converting Sydenham to Bankstown

A Metro line from Sydenham to Miranda would provide new rail services to communities in southern Sydney and be an environmentally friendly alternative to the F6 Motorway
